Gunjan Prabhakaran forays into independent legal practice at DS Advocates

Gunjan Prabhakaran has joined DS Advocates as Partner, where she will spearhead the firm’s GST, Customs, Foreign Trade Policy, advisory and litigation practice. With over 17 years of distinguished experience in indirect taxation, Gunjan brings a deep understanding of India’s evolving tax landscape and a proven record of leadership in building high-performing tax advisory teams.


Gunjan completed her bachelor’s in law at the ILS Law College, Pune, in 2006. She is enrolled at the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. She started her carrier with Ernst & Young, thereafter, established and led indirect tax practice for Grant Thornton India LLP and BDO India LLP in Chennai. She went on to head the Indirect Tax Practice for BDO India LLP nationally from 2019 to 2025, managing over 300 professionals across 13 locations. During her tenure, BDO India LLP was awarded the prestigious “Indirect Tax Firm of the Year” award in APAC region in 2024. She was recognized as “Highly Regarded” and featured in “Women in Tax” rankings by World Tax 2024, International Tax Review.
She has authored and published more than 50+ articles on GST and Customs law.


Beyond her professional achievements, Gunjan has contributed extensively to thought leadership in the tax domain, authoring over 50 publications on GST and Customs. In 2023, she also obtained a certification from the WILL Board for “Women, Boards & ESG”, underscoring her commitment to leadership excellence and corporate governance.
