From Survival to Strength: Lessons on Resilience and Leadership

By Krithivasan S
Resilience isn’t built in comfort. It’s born in chaos, carved through pain, and strengthened by purpose. My journey with mucormycosis — a rare and aggressive fungal infection — tested every ounce of strength I had. What began as a fight for survival transformed into a journey of rediscovery — of finding purpose through pain and courage through uncertainty.
Those months were brutal. I was fighting mucormycosis while continuing to work and simultaneously completing my Executive Diploma in Human Resource Management (EDHRM from XLRI Jamshedpur). Balancing work, treatment, and academics wasn’t easy — but it reminded me that resilience is built in moments when giving up feels like the simpler choice.
When I finally walked across that stage to graduate, it wasn’t just a degree I held — it was a symbol of perseverance. Soon after, life presented a new chapter — an opportunity to work overseas in the United States, which gave me global exposure and a renewed sense of confidence in my purpose.
Returning to India, I continued to scale and explore new frontiers — taking on the role of Director & Head HR at Pickyourtrail, followed by a series of consulting assignments that allowed me to experiment, learn, and understand the evolving world of work from different perspectives. Each experience added a new layer to my understanding of leadership — one that values empathy, adaptability, and courage over titles.
And today, I’m privileged to lead as the CHRO for Prayagh Consumer Care Pvt Ltd, India’s 4th largest confectionery manufacturer, where I drive people and people strategy for a rapidly growing organization. Every day, I carry forward the lessons my journey taught me — that leadership is not about control; it’s about care. Not about avoiding challenges, but embracing them with conviction.
Resilience, for me, isn’t just a word — it’s a way of life. It’s the quiet strength that turns pain into purpose, fear into faith, and survival into strength.
To anyone walking through their own storm — remember: you are stronger than the challenge in front of you. Resilience isn’t about never falling; it’s about learning how to rise, every single time.
